Ashe County Department of Social Services

The Ashe County Department of Social Services (DSS) assists families and Individuals by helping them maintain and/or enhance their quality of life; to prevent abuse, neglect and exploitation of vulnerable people in the community. DSS handles Medicaid, Work First Family Assistance, Work First Employment Services, TANF Emergency Assistance, Low Income Energy Assistance, Refugee Assistance, Housing Assistance, Adult Protective Services/Guardianship, Adult Group Home, Assisted Living and Skilled Nursing Facility Monitoring. DSS works with other local Ashe County agencies to provide needs such as clothing, medication for non-insured, furniture, transportation, home repair, food, etc.
