A Little About Us
We are The Democratic Women of Ashe County, NC
Our vision for our beloved Ashe County (whether by birth or by choice) is for Ashe County to be recognized as a place where forward thinking women are empowered and find community; where progressive political ideas are openly discussed and promoted; where government works for all people of the county; and where at least 50% of elected offices are held by women.
Achievement of our vision will require courage, commitment, and thoughtful action. Our focus is on establishing and strengthening relationships with a diverse and all-inclusive array of individuals and organizations throughout Ashe County and the State.
We seek to diminish division and instead focus on commonalities and shared concerns.
Our goal is to create a strong foundation for collaboration and change. We are eager to learn and to educate; to propose solutions; and to promote activism and engagement.

How to depolarize
Emma Varvaloucas
On Monday, the day that former president Donald Trump was indicted in Georgia for efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 election, I got into an argument with a close friend who is considering voting for him again.
This friend is patriotic, a true lover of the United States. I told him I didn’t understand why he would vote for someone who so clearly doesn’t have the US’ best interests at heart. He told me that his vote is none of my business. Emotions rose. Eventually, he said, “It’s not right that you wouldn’t be friends with me anymore if I vote for Trump.”
